Each year, Year 11 GCSE D&T students attend the Gresham’s STEAM Careers Convention, an inspiring event that brings together science, technology, engineering, arts, and maths through hands-on exhibits and expert talks. Students explore a wide range of career pathways, interact with professionals, and take part in activities that highlight how creativity and technical knowledge work hand in hand in the real world.
As part of their NEA (Non-Exam Assessment) coursework, Year 11 students collaborate with industry partners who act as real clients. They design products in response to genuine briefs, developing solutions tailored to specific users and needs. This process encourages students to think professionally, refine their presentation skills, and apply their technical knowledge with purpose.
It’s a powerful way to embed employability skills, boost confidence, and give students a sense of ownership over their final projects.
We are hugely grateful to our local business partners who generously give their time throughout the academic year to meet with our students: Annie Golding @EleandMe, Becky King @PinewoodsHolidayPark, Pat Weston @WellsCarnival, Simon Prince @CoastalHealth&Wellbeing, Leanne Neave @RSPCA Norwich, Erica Sperry and Joe Wilding @APHS. Each work closely with the students during the design process, providing encouragement and essential feedback on their product ideas.
