Welcome to the exciting world of our Greenpower Kit Car STEM Club!
As part of the national Greenpower Education Trust initiative, our students design, build, test, and race electric kit cars. Working as a team, they tackle real engineering challenges and compete in Greenpower races against schools from across the UK. It’s a fantastic opportunity to apply STEM learning in a practical way, develop leadership and technical skills, and connect with industry mentors — all while promoting sustainability and innovation.
Our STEM Club meets every Thursday after school (3–4.30 pm) throughout the school year, offering students hands-on experience, teamwork, and the thrill of bringing their engineering ideas to life.
Our Greenpower STEM club launched in October 2022 after we successfully secured funding from the Dudgeon & Sheringham Shoal Community Fund, via Norfolk Community Foundation, to purchase our first Greenpower F24 kit car, ‘APHS Ambition’. To join, students applied in writing, ensuring we built a diverse team across year groups, abilities, and genders. 14 students made up the first team, who rose to the challenge of building and racing the car.
Following this success, we gained further support in 2023 from the JP Blanch Fund, via Norfolk Community Foundation, allowing us to buy a second F24 kit car, ‘APHS Poseidon’, and expand our club to include another 12 students.
In 2024, we were thrilled to expand again thanks to generous funding from the Dudgeon Community Fund, via Norfolk Community Foundation. This enabled us to repurpose an old groundsman's hut into our very own 'STEM Shed', giving us a much needed designated space to work on our cars.
With more space, we were also able to purchase a third Greenpower G2 ‘Goblin’ kit car, ‘APHS Hercules’ designed for primary-age pupils, and extend our club to include a further 8 Year 5 & 6 students from our feeder primary schools. This gives younger pupils the chance to explore engineering early and connect with our older students as mentors.
That same year, our APHS Ambition F24 car reached the Greenpower International Final at Goodwood Motor Circuit and proudly won the Best Portfolio Award — a fantastic achievement that reflects the dedication and creativity of our students.
This incredible progress wouldn’t be possible without the continued support of Kieron Scillitoe of Scillitoe Bros, a local garage owner approached by Mrs. Moffat in 2023 for help.
He has been on board ever since, providing invaluable mentoring, technical expertise and even creating a dedicated workspace at his premises so our students can work safely when space is tight at school. You can read more about Kieron’s incredible contribution in our award nomination here.
We regularly enter our kit cars in the Greenpower Regional Races at the Lotus Test Track in Hethel, Norwich, giving our students the exciting experience of competing on a professional circuit. However, race entry costs £110 per car, which quickly adds up as our teams grow. If any local businesses would like to support or sponsor us, we would be hugely grateful — and you can find out more on our Sponsors Page.
